Book Review: The Supernatural Enhancements, by Edgar Cantero

"The Supernatural Enhancements", by Edgar Cantero captures the reader's interest with journal entries, dream journals, paranormal activity, and a secret society with an obsession with an occult game. However, this book falls short of what I would consider a great book. It begins in the middle of one of the protagonist's journal entries and ends in a sudden manner as well. This gives the impression that Cantero cannot write beginnings or endings and, has instead, found clever ways to overcome this hurtle. This strategy worked for the beginning and was supported by the story and devices used within the book (i.e. further journal entries, recordings, found documents). However, the book switches from a paranormal mystery to the discovery of a magical/religious object that imbues visions and the near occult group that studies it. Middle of the Map Fest: Day 2

First things first: Beer! We beelined downtown as soon as we woke up, with only a brief stop at a speciality Kaldi's. This place makes only latte's, even tea lattes. Z and mine's favorite go-to morning drink is a dirty (that means espresso injection) chai tea latte. This place has an Earl Grey Latte that taste like Picard's bald spot (i.e. silky smooth and herbal and hot). I digress, we were on our way to the Boulevard Brewery. At 10 a.m., there was a long line winding its way up the hill from the main door of the Brewery. Usually, the free tour tickets are first come first serve, and usually they are out of tickets for all the tours by 11 a.m. Tickets in hand we headed over to the Steamship Arabia Museum. The Steamship Arabia is one of many steamships that wrecked in the Missouri River. Its goods were lost, but all of its passengers (except a burrow) were saved. Happy Holidays

I am so tired of the "War against Christmas" tirades that fill the newsrooms. This isn't news. Christmas isn't threatened because the number of people celebrating the "Holiday" season is increasing. There is change occurring in the way this time of the year is celebrated. People are stepping away from religious reasons of holiday observance and embracing a simpler concept: Appreciation. This is tribulation time of the year for everyone. It's cold, it's dark, the weather is dangerously beautiful, and we get bored. This is the time of the year that all should Appreciate what they have and who they have in their lives. This simple concept can be applied to all winter holidays. (C)Hanukkah, Christmas, Saturnalia- what have you- all celebrate in terms of appreciation, gratefulness, and togetherness.
