Book Review: The Supernatural Enhancements, by Edgar Cantero

"The Supernatural Enhancements", by Edgar Cantero captures the reader's interest with journal entries, dream journals, paranormal activity, and a secret society with an obsession with an occult game. However, this book falls short of what I would consider a great book. It begins in the middle of one of the protagonist's journal entries and ends in a sudden manner as well. This gives the impression that Cantero cannot write beginnings or endings and, has instead, found clever ways to overcome this hurtle. This strategy worked for the beginning and was supported by the story and devices used within the book (i.e. further journal entries, recordings, found documents). However, the book switches from a paranormal mystery to the discovery of a magical/religious object that imbues visions and the near occult group that studies it. Middle of the Map Fest: Day 1

It has been a few weeks since Middle of the Map actually occurred. Bad habits are hard to break, as well as strings of misfortune. I had a series of dramas unfold in my lap and I was annoyed enough to forget several things; including blogging. Apologies to myself. On with the events: Friday April 24th: Pretending to be fully fledged adults, Zeb and I managed to set our wheels on the road before noon. It rained most of the way, but fortuitously stopped as we found a parking space. Immediately, found a coffee place: Westport Coffee. This place had rave reviews online, nice ambiance, arcade games, but coffee was 'meh.' The Westport district is the oldest established community in the KC area, it has several points of interest: including food, entertainment, shopping, and historical points. Route 66

I compulsively travel. There have been days that I am on the expressway to work and instead of taking a left, I head right for open country and small winding roads. I am addicted to how I feel when I am going somewhere. Its that feeling when you see a cloud covering the sun and it moves to let the rays warm your face. The anticipation irks you, it's a need that you can’t fulfill immediately. I was inflicted at birth. I began walking at an early age and made my mother prematurely gray with my wanderings. I am restless, I need to see and experience new things. Z and I headed to St. Louis to visit friends for a long weekend. On the way back I spotted a sign for the Route 66 State Park Visitor’s Center. I was driving, so I eased into the off ramp without a word. Z is accustomed to my whims and pulled up the map on his phone trying to predict what led me to this deviation. We have a habit of taking new or long routes to familiar destinations, just to see what there is to see.
