Life! GIVE MY CREATION LIFE!!!!

Last Thursday scientists made headway towards the old Frankenstein cliche of playing God. A little bouncing synthetic life form made its debut!

Basically, they changed a bacterium (still working with single cells) from one species to another by changing its DNA. Then from there they built up a 'new' cell from DNA fragments both used and synthetic.

Here is the link.

Now the practical applications of this could lead to synthesizing fuels, foods, awesome pets with fire-breathing capabilities, giant man eating plants, disease cures, more durable fabrics and perhaps floating islands held up by synthesized organisms that can carry one thousand times their weight and fly. Perhaps even a parasite that can be inserted into the brain to translate foreign languages.
